There are two kinds of regeneration of GPF: passive regeneration means that when the driver releases the pedal under daily driving conditions, the engine is cut off and a large amount of oxygen enters the GPF to realize regeneration. Active regeneration means that when passive regeneration cannot be satisfied, the vehicle goes to a special working condition (for example, running at a high speed of 80KM/h for 30 minutes), the engine is instructed by ECM, and the ignition angle is pushed back, so that the exhaust gas temperature rises. After the GPF temperature rises, the air-fuel ratio (excess oxygen) is diluted to realize GPF regeneration.

It should be noted that the ash (CaO, P2O5, ZnO, SO3, Fe2O3) cannot be removed by GPF regeneration. With the accumulation of time, it is necessary to replace GPF at the maintenance station.
